I've been invited to be a guest speaker at a meeting to talk about Soap Nuts, it's not until September 25th but most the audience are doctors etc. only about 25 but that's enough!!
I know you have done a few talks on Aromatherapy, any advice welcomed
First - don't panic & remember you know the info on soapnuts, they don't.
Second - forget they are doctors, they are just another group of people.
Third - makes notes & information sheets
Fourth - practice your speech, on your own in a quiet space
Fifth - be prepared but know that you may not be perfect & you will be fine.
Public speaking can be daunting & make you extremely nervous but you are the expert your audience are not, so they will be eager to listen to you & make sure you have a few of the Soapnuts to hand around for them to examine & whilst they are fiddling & passing around it will give you a few seconds to take a deep breath & steady yourself in the middle.
I'm sure I'll be seeing you before then & we'll have a chat but I love public speaking - oh try to add some funny bits into the speech, always lightens the atmosphere & makes you feel better when they laugh too!
Great answer Helen, the only thing that I would add is that if you are asked anything that you don't know the answer to, offer to find out and follow it up with them.
I'm always nervous at the start, but a few sentences in I'm fine and I start to enjoy it.
